Forest Research Institute

FRI Dehradun is another name for the Forest Research Institute. The main building of the institute has beautiful architecture and is the main tourist attraction. The whole institute covers an area of 2000 acres. Trees and greenery surround the area. You will also find varieties of species of flora and fauna. The place provides a breathtaking view of the surroundings and has a soothing environment. There is a magnificent Botanical Garden which serves as a picnic spot for many visitors. Also, the place serves as a perfect destination for photography.

Sahastradhara

The literal meaning of Sahastradhara is ‘Thousand Fold Spring’. You can view the ravishing mountains from here. There is a beautiful waterfall which falls from a height of 9 meters. Continuous shower drips from the roof of mysterious caves. There are water pools and springs. There is a sulphur spring, known for its medicinal values. Tourists often take a bath in this spring. Tourists can also have an adventurous ride to the mountaintop through rope-ways. A man made water park called the ‘Joy and Water Park’ is a famous tourist attraction. Tapkeshwar Temple

Tapkeshwar Temple is located on the banks of river Nandi. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all around the country come here to worship Lord Shiva. The Shivling in the temple is one of the oldest Shivlings. Devotees come here to see the continuous water droplets falling on the Shivling. There is an annual fair during Shivratri which serves delicious Bhaang key Pakode and Bhaang Juice as prasad.

The Mindrolling Monastery

The Mindrolling Monastery is the most famous tourist attraction. There are magnificent Buddhist structures and a Holy School of Tibetan Religion. The monastery attracts a good number of international tourists and Buddhist lovers. Colorful gardens surround the temple. The temple complex has small shops for eating, shopping and purchasing holy Tibetan books.

Guchhu Pani

Guchhu Pani is located near Anarwala village. The cave is 600 meters long. It is a picnic spot and an interesting place for visitors. Guchhu Pani is known for its mysterious caves and sudden springs of water. One can put their legs in the cold water and enjoy the captivating view of caves and waterfalls. There are several small and large waterfalls. The highest waterfall of the place is 10 meters in height. People come here mostly in summers.

Dehradun Zoo

Dehradun Zoo is located near Mussoorie road. It is situated at the foothills of the Shivalik Mountains and is surrounded by the Malsi Reserve Forest. It is an attractive place for family outings and is especially crowded during weekends. A small eatery provides food items for visitors.

Rajaji National Park

The Rajaji National Park spreads over an area of 820 square kilometres. There are various species of birds, animals and fish. There are dense forests with broad leaves. The park provides habitat to Asian elephant and Bengal tiger of India. There are rest houses which serve as a great platform for bird viewing. The river flowing through the forests has fish species like trouts and mahseers. There are around 315 species of birds. Asan Barrage Water Sports Resort

Asan Barrage Water Sports Resort is 43 kilometres from Dehradun on Chandigarh- Shimla Highway. The marshland is present near the meeting point of river Asan and river Yamuna. The local name of the place is Dhalipur Lake. The length of the barrage is 287.5 meters. Species of birds found here include mallard, coot, egrets, wagtails, osprey, steppe eagle, etc. The resort also offers adventurous water sports like water skiing, boating, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, etc.

Tapowan

The banks of river Ganges has a place called Tapowan. It has awe-inspiring grasslands called Nandanvan. The grasslands invite trekkers and nature lovers. According to the Hindu epic, Mahabharata, Guru Dronacharya spent his atonement here. It is an amazing pilgrim spot and a holy place for Hindus.
